Why don’t diets always work?

I have a question for you. Have you ever known someone who has gone on a diet, maybe lost the weight they wanted to, but then put it all back on again… and maybe even put on more than they lost?

Have you ever wondered why the whole diet thing just doesn’t work for most people?

Have you ever known or seen someone who you believe has ultimate health and fitness and has an ideal body? Does this person diet? Probably not, this person has thoughts and beliefs that result in them making the right choices that give them the results they have.

It’s about lifestyle choices

The big factor here is that the healthy, fit, slim person makes different choices from the unhealthy, overweight person; they have a different way of thinking about nutrition and exercise that gives them the results they have.

Bottom line is having your ideal body it is about developing a lifestyle that supports the results you want to achieve. You can never achieve this unless you change the way you think… and the average diet does not change the way you think long term.

I know this because I have been there!

The weight rollercoaster

By my late 30’s my weight started creeping up and before I knew it I needed to drop 30 lbs. I went on a crazy green food only alkaline diet and dropped the weight. But it slowly crept back on again.

When I was 41 years old I was 30lbs. overweight and weighed almost 220 lbs. at 24% body fat content. I was terribly unhealthy as well on a variety of prescription drugs. I was not the picture of ultimate health. I was unhappy, unfulfilled and pretty miserable.

I decided to do something about my situation and started a diet and fitness program, six months later I was 193 lbs. at 13% body fat content… happy days right?

No not really because this was again a pretty short term result. And once again the weight crept back on until I was 44 yrs. old and 20 lbs. overweight again.

What was the problem?

The problem was that my thoughts and lifestyle had not changed so I found myself back at square one. I was overweight again and once again very unhealthy. I was back on a variety of prescription drugs and was in my doctor’s office with some kind of malady every other month.

This is when I decided no more! I had to do something about my situation for once and for all, I had to change my lifestyle so that I could be vibrant and healthy and live my life to the fullest potential.

The challenge

My challenge was that I was a busy business executive and I didn’t have a lot of time to figure out all the confusing and contradictory information of there about how to eat. I decided to simplify everything and really use my body’s reaction to food as the guide to what is good for me. So I embarked on simplifying my exercise and nutrition habits, and changing my thought process around nutrition and exercise.

It’s about thoughts and beliefs

I found out that fit and healthy people have certain thoughts and beliefs that give them the results they enjoy. I had to mimic and model those thoughts and beliefs. I embarked on a lifestyle change that included a change in my way of thinking, eating and exercising, and now I feel fantastic.

I am now 46 years old and I weight 186 lbs. at 12% body fat content; I am healthy again. I have not been in my doctor’s office for over two years and I am on no drugs at all, no prescription or non-prescription drugs at all. I have no acid reflux, no allergies, I sleep great, I feel great, I haven’t taken a sick day in over a year, I am happy and healthy… I feel great.

So what did I do?

I changed my lifestyle and I will share some of what I did with you in the next article…
